32 patients with acute and chronic bronchial syndrome were given two capsules twice daily, containing either 100mg of cyclidrol or of lactose each, for 1 week.
Respiratory symptoms (amount, timing, thickness, purulence and difficulty of expectoration of sputum, severity and timing of cough) were scored and recorded. Before and after treatment Also recorded were pulmonary function test (FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC¡Æ/o), CBC, and serum GOT & GPT. Cyclidrol significantly improved respiratory symptoms, especially thickness and difficulty of expectoration of sputum. Similarly it improved FEV1 and FEV1/FVC% significantly and showed clinical improvement of air way obstruction.
In regard of side effects, it showed minor nonspecific gastrointestinal disturbance which was self-limited and clinically irrelevant. It showed no toxic effect in hematologic and liver function tests.
